Visiting a museum of the arts is both educational and joyful from my experience. I experience this when visiting The Museum of Latin American Art. This museum featured art that displayed different representations of Latin American culture. It is the only museum in the United States that is dedicated to modern and contemporary Latin art. The art pieces inside were able to capture art from about 20 different countries and help others understand and explore the culture. Through the art I was able to gain a better understanding about the lives of Latin American and significant events to moments in their day-to-day lives. The art varied from drawings, painting, photography, to objects on display. This opportunity was both enjoyable and educational as we learned about Latin American Culture, which just happens to be my culture.
The museum had very interesting pieces that represented Latin Art. Some I really understood and admiring, however some pieces I really did’t understand. I decided to go alone and I realized it made me think a lot more than I expected. There were many pieces that I had no idea what they meant, having very little expertise in the art world. I had to really attempt to think outside of the box and found myself listening to other conversation to try to grasp a better understanding of some pieces.
I really enjoyed attending the Museum of Latin American Art. I learned a lot about art as well as Latin America. Long Beach is so fortunate to be able be the home of this museum. I had so much to learn about Latin America and I am Latin American. I can only imagine how much this benefits people who want to learn and understand more, especially in an area with such a diverse community.
I completed a scavenger hunt while on my visit which really helped me become more engaged and aware of art pieces. I felt a little out of place at first, not knowing nearly as much about art as most of the viewers. Quickly I forgot about others and became emerged in the art itself. I recommend going to a museum alone, you would be surprised how much you can learn!
