Santa Monica BLVD. West Hollywood

Since I came out of the closet at the age of 18, I have always been fascinated by the Stretch of Gay bars that stretch down Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood. I have been a long time patron and involved in all aspects of gay culture in L.A., The city and boulevard have a lot of rich history. The city of West Hollywood is considered an unincorporated region of Los Angeles. It wasn’t until 1958 did Santa Monica Blvd become a staple of gay culture with the opening of the men’s fashion store, “Ah Men”. It wasn’t until 1984 that the city of West Hollywood was incorporated with a majority gay city-council.

From then on it became a mecca for gay culture in Los Angeles. The bars, the annual gay pride parade, and event, West Hollywood is the place to be 7 nights a week.

A fun fact that I have is during the last Gay Pride Festival I was featured on the news.
